Last week Seattle voted yes to a proposed smoking ban. No more leaving a club smelling like an ashtray. No more coughing up black phlegm in the morning. No more drycleaning my dress shirts after one night out.
That all said, is it really the government's place to tell a business what they can and cannot do? Shouldn't the market be able to decide this? I mean, the ban was passed by an overwhelming margin. If a club started to enforce the ban on its own, or a restaurant, wouldn't this majority of voters flock there? Wouldn't other establishments then follow suit?
Related side note: what business is it of the city whether you have railings on your house stairs or whether your front door faces the street? When you build or renovate a house, these are some of the things they feel they have a say over. Ridiculous.
