This weekend both Sheena and Winnie were in town visiting. Friday night Sheena and Arlene - I better be best-man to these two's lesbian wedding when they realize their how deep their love for eachother really is (wait, is the best man at a lesbian wedding even a man?!?) - joined Marc and I at Pegu for drinks then some really sweaty dancing at BoB in the LES (their A/C was broken). And then we went in search of greasy 4am chinese food and ended up at the exact same place Gaile and I went a couple weekends before. And the food was equally bad. If you are in New York craving late night Chinese food and wander into a place wallpapered with dollar bills, turn around and leave.
Saturday night I joined Winnie and friends at the Gansevoort Hotel in Meatpacking District. The more time you spend in meatpacking the more you can see why my roomate refers to it derisively at the "Paris Hilton New York". Except the girls in slutty clothes aren't waif thin and are loud and oboxious. Well, Gansevoort is a rooftop deck that is packed like sardines - if sausages can be said to be packed that way. Although everywhere in New York women seem to outnumber men by a slight margin, at the Gansevoort it was about 70% dudes. After a couple drinks we left and went to APT, also in meatpacking, but a very different meat packing. You almost begin to understand the need for a velvet rope policy when walking around over there. The music at APT was excellent as usual. We stayed for a couple more drinks and then went uptown to Gray's Papaya which everyone was raving about but when you actually get it it is a ninety-nine cent emaciated hotdog. It's got nothing on Vancouver's street dogs I say. Maybe it is the papaya juice that is the real draw. Finally I finished the night by meeting Sheena and Arlene in the LES for some belgian fries.
