Gaile visited again this weekend and although we spent most of the time at home under the comfort of A/C we did get out a little bit. Here are some of the highlights.
Saturday night went to the swing dance lessons at Lincoln Centre followed by dinner at Yum Yum and drinks at Zanzibar where we critiqued every design choice they made (I love that Gaile is as much, if not significantly more, a design snob as me).
Sunday morning we had brunch at Essex which was amazing. Rib-eye steak and eggs for me and a lobster benedict for Gaile. Brunch also comes with 3 mimosas which really are just bottomless because the waitress seemed to refill them as fast as we could drain them.
Monday night we went to APT for some late night dancing. When we arrived there were some guys leaving and some other guys arriving. The guys arriving asked the guys leaving how it was inside and the guys leaving said they didn't know because they never got it. So we went in and knocked on the door. The other guys let us face the doormen first. Two big bouncer dudes and a girl with a clipboard. "What party are you with?" she asks. "We're not with a party" I say. She scans her clipboard. Looks Gaile and I up and down. Looks at the bouncer to her right. Back at her clipboard. "How many of you?". "Just the two of us". She repeats the clipboard, us, bouncer, clipboard scanning process and finally says we're ok to the bouncer. The guys behnd us weren't so lucky. Inside the DJ was spinning what I'd describe as hip hop over a deep house beat. It sounded great. We walked over to the bar area and the waitress asked us if we'd like a table. Sure. Then the waiter messed up our drinks a couple times and kept brining us free ones to compensate. Learning we were from Vancouver he also asked if we had any weed. Spent the whole night dancing leaving me only an hour or two of sleep before I had to go to work. But an awesome night.
Gaile left the Tuesday and our next visit will be in Vancouver in the middle of August.
