My company has a tradition every summer of organizing a weekend away for all the staff. This year we went to Club Getaway up in Connecticut.
Significant others were also invited so that seemed like the perfect excuse to fly Gaile over.
The bus left New York Friday after work and we arrived late Friday night. We settled into tiny cabins with tiny, squeaky twin beds and then made our way to the big tent where dinner was being served. So the accomodations kinda sucked but the food was quite decent. The next morning we'd find out what made the trip worthwhile.
Unfortunately we slept in so missed out on signing up for the more popular activities like rock climbing and the trapeze. We did get into the archery class though and that was a lot of fun - except for the enormous welts I received from the bow string slicing across my forearm over and over again. Next up was the bungee trampoline. Had no idea what we were in for -- independently I get bungee and trampoline but I couldn't imagine how they combined the two concepts. Turns out my idea of slingshotting people into trampoline beds was quite accurate. The bungees were attached to a harness and they served to both amplify your ascent and slow down your descent. Because of this it makes the trampoline infintely safer and everyone was able to backflip to their heart's content. Gaile was even doing triples.
For me, the best part of the weekend was the time spent at the lake playing on the trampoline with the inflatable base that was floating fifty feet off shore. Being able to jump and flip without worrying about landing off the trampoline -- in fact, being able to intentionally land off the trampoline -- kept me entertained for hours.
Aside from that the evenings were spent drinking and dancing with the one highlight of my first mechanical bull experience. Trust me, it is harder than it looks.
