Last night I returned for my second class of acrobatic gymnastics and it was even better than the first class. This time we spent more time on the trampoline and also worked on some basic tumbling. For a long time I've wanted to be able to do a back handspring but have never had the right instruction. At the acro gym they have this device .
And it is incredible. You sit down. Extend your arms. Push with your legs. Snap your hips. Voila, back handspring. Now the first couple attempts are a little jarring on the shoulders and it takes a bit to understand the snapping action (and when to do it) but a few repetitions and it starts to feel smooth. Not sure what the progression from this to full back handsprings is like but I am looking forward to it!.
Tonight I am trying the aerial class - trapeze action!
