I started diving with a club that trains out of the Queen Anne pool here in Seasttle last night. Aside from being about twice as old as everyone else in the class I got plenty of board time and plenty of good tips.
Just finding this club is a story in itself.
When I got to Seattle I started searching for masters diving clubs and turned up nothing - well using Google anyways. So I called the one pool that seemed to have diving platforms, the King County Aquatic Center, except when I called I was told their dive tank was never open to the public and that there was no masters club that trained there either. I did however get the name of a kids-team coach. When I called him he explained that basically, diving sucks in Washington. There are hardly any facilities and there are no masters clubs. But he did give me the name of a masters diver who lives in Seattle, who I called. This guy trains out of the Queen Anne pool on Mondays and Wednesdays and this is the class I joined. When I spoke to him he made it sound like a masters club but given that I was the only person there without a parental consent form, I think not.
Anyways I am just happy to have found a place to train and some decent coaches to learn from. A master competition isn't looking so far fetched now.
